Should coffee beans be dark roasted?

All this while I thought dark was better. I thought it's what the pros drink. Coffee is bitter, right? And burnt = bitter. I long for the bitterness in my coffee.

But dark roast is just burnt. Done to remove taste from bad beans.

Good beans come in light to medium roast.
